Kari Ganoung Ruiz - Spring Plein Air Painting 3 Day Workshop

Join award-winning Plein Air artist Kari Ganoung Ruiz for a workshop to start out the Plein air painting season. Kari’s personalized instruction will assist students in composing a scene while building confidence in value structure, color choices, and brushwork to achieve a feeling of light in their work. Focus will be on the quick and confident capture of a subject in the timespan of 2+ hours.

Location: The Homestead, Kari and Diego's property near Interlaken, New York. Paint the forest, fields, and streams of the beautiful Finger Lakes region - without leaving The Homestead!

Dates: April 23rd - 25th  2026

Lodging: Dry camping available with your own equipment on the property, or find many vacation rentals in the area

Materials List:

Recommend 8 or more rigid painting panels with white surfaces we will be toning during class, sizes you’re comfortable with


Oil colors:

White

cool yellow (Cadmium Yellow Light)

warm yellow (Cadmium Yellow Medium)

cool red (Quinacridone Red)

warm red (Cadmium Red Medium or Naphthol Red)

Ultramarine Blue

Indanthrene Blue

You will need to bring everything normally needed for painting inside or out:

• easel (recommendation on Kari’s website)

• palette

• mineral spirits

• paper towels

• brushes (Kari suggests an array of synthetic long and short flats, suggestions on her website )

• sketchbook

• pencil

• eraser

In addition, please bring suitable outdoor clothing and a way to carry your gear as there will be some walking to locations on the property.
