Painting Workshop April 30th, Pittsford New York

Open to the public free painting demo starts at 11am
Followed by a 3 hour class, 1:30pm - 4:30pm. Cost is $50 per student

In this session, Kari will discuss using perspective and shadow shapes to strengthen a plein air composition. There will be a brief demo of the compositional sketch and inital block in using oil color, then appox. 2 hours of guided painting time. We will meet at the Pittsford Fine Art Gallery at 1:00pm, then head to our location along the canal.

Materials List:

Rigid painting panel with white surface we will be toning during class. Choose a size you’re comfortable with

Oil colors:

  • white
  • cool yellow (Cadmium Yellow Light)
  • warm yellow (Cadmium Yellow Medium)
  • cool red (Quinacridone Red)
  • warm red (Cadmium Red Medium)
  • Ultramarine Blue

You will need to bring everything normally needed for painting inside or out:

  • • easel
  • • palette
  • • mineral spirits
  • • paper towels
  • • brushes (Kari suggests an array of synthetic long and short flats )
  • • sketchbook
  • • pencil
  • • eraser

In addition, bring these items specific to outdoor painting:

layered clothing
comfortable shoes
bag or cart to corral your gear hat with brim
umbrella (just in case)
